Upgrading or downgrading your platform plan
How to change plans or switch between monthly and annual billing, and what happens when you downgrade, renew, or cancel.
From Settings → Billing & plan, pick the plan (Basic / Growth / Pro) and billing interval you want and submit. A school that's still on its trial, or whose subscription was canceled, is taken to a secure checkout to pay; a school that's already paying changes its existing subscription directly, with no new checkout.
Schools in Taiwan choose, when they first subscribe, whether to pay for their platform plan through Stripe (automatic card billing) or PayUni (manual renewal), and stay on it for as long as that subscription runs (they can pick again when resubscribing after a cancellation). The rules below apply to both; where PayUni works differently, it's called out.
Upgrading
Upgrades take effect immediately, and you're only charged the prorated difference for the days left in the current period, never a second full period. If the difference is very small (under NT$20 on PayUni), the upgrade is applied for free.
A PayUni school that's past its renewal date (past due) has to renew its current plan before upgrading, since there are no days left in the period to prorate against.
Downgrading
A downgrade is scheduled for the end of the current period: you keep the plan you've already paid for until then, and on that day features and price change together. Nothing is refunded and nothing is taken away early. Once scheduled, the top of the billing page shows "Scheduled to change to … on …", and you can withdraw it any time before then with "Cancel scheduled plan change". Upgrading before the period ends replaces the scheduled downgrade.
There are two cases:
- Your course count, team seats, or custom page count is over the new plan's limit: the downgrade is blocked outright until all three fit. For example, with 8 published courses you can't downgrade to Basic (6 courses, 1 team seat, 1 custom page) until you archive or delete courses, remove team members or revoke pending invites, and delete custom pages.
- You're using features the new plan doesn't include: you'll first see a list (e.g. affiliate program, bundles, order bumps, waitlists, group buys, QR event check-in, community gamification, email automation, developer API keys, webhooks, analytics, hiding the Teachvix footer badge, video storage) of what you'll lose access to when the period ends, and can choose "Downgrade anyway" or "Cancel".
Between scheduling a downgrade and the day it takes effect, creating or publishing courses, inviting instructors, and creating custom pages already count against the new plan's limits, so you don't end up over them again when it takes effect. Canceling the scheduled downgrade restores your current plan's limits.
Once the downgrade takes effect, checkout also stops applying features the new plan doesn't include: order bumps (including post-purchase upsells), group-buy prices, bundle discounts, and affiliate commissions, and bundle sales pages come down. Students can still buy courses at the regular price.
Course content you've already uploaded is never deleted by a downgrade. Existing bundles, order bumps, waitlists, group buys, and affiliate referral tracking aren't wiped either; you just can't create or manage them on the new plan.
Monthly or annual billing
Every plan can be billed monthly or annually. Annual billing charges 10 months up front (2 months free), not a percentage discount.
- Stripe billing: switching interval takes effect immediately, like an upgrade. Stripe prorates the difference, and your next charge date moves to match the new interval.
- PayUni billing: switching only the interval (same plan) is scheduled for the end of the current period, like a downgrade. Going from annual to monthly, for example, you use up the year first and then renew monthly. The interval you pick with a downgrade is remembered too and takes effect along with it.
Renewing on PayUni
PayUni doesn't charge automatically; you pay for the next period with "Renew now" on the billing page. Renewing early doesn't cost you the days left in the current period: the new period starts from your current end date, not from the day you pay.
If a plan change is already scheduled for the end of the period, renewing charges the scheduled plan and interval, since you're paying for the next period and that period is on the new plan. The rest of the current period stays on your current plan.
Canceling
After canceling, you keep access until the end of the current period, and only then does your storefront close. You can undo it any time before that with "Keep subscription". If a plan change is scheduled, cancel the scheduled change first, then cancel the subscription. The other way round, while a cancellation is pending you need to choose "Keep subscription" before changing plans.
If you subscribe again after a cancellation, everything starts fresh with the new subscription; the old "cancel at period end" setting doesn't carry over.
The monthly allowance of website AI chat messages depends on the plan (Basic 100, Growth 1,000, Pro 3,000). After a downgrade the allowance drops with it; conversations already stored are not affected.
