Cohorts & waitlist: run one course in batches

Create several cohorts for a course, set seat caps and closing dates, and handle the waitlist when one fills up.

On this page

A course can run in batches: each cohort has its own roster and start date. With no cohorts, the course keeps its default — students start right after purchase and work at their own pace.

Creating a cohort

On the course, go to Students & community → Cohorts and press "Add cohort":

  • Cohort name, e.g. "March 2026 class".
  • Start date.
  • Enrollment closing date (optional).
  • Seat cap (optional; blank means unlimited).

How students pick one

When a cohort is open, checkout lets the student choose it. "Open" means the closing date hasn't passed and seats remain. A full or closed cohort is marked "Full" or "Enrollment closed" and can't be chosen.

After buying, students see which cohort they were placed in on the course's Cohorts page.

Cohort start date and "unlock after N days"

If a lesson unlocks "N days after purchase" (see Access duration & drip content), students in a cohort count those days from the cohort's start date, so everyone in a cohort unlocks together; students without a cohort count from their purchase date.

Waitlist

When a cohort is full, students can press "Join waitlist" on the cohorts page, which shows how many are waiting. The waitlist is a Growth plan (and above) feature.

In a cohort's waitlist you can press "Assign seat" next to someone: they're placed in the cohort, removed from the waitlist, and sent a "a seat opened up" email. Note:

  • They must already have bought the course (the waitlist is just a queue and gives no access by itself).
  • Nothing is promoted automatically — after someone leaves or you raise the cap, assign people yourself.

Going over the cap

Rarely (for example several people paying at once) a cohort can go over its cap. The notification bell tells you "cohort over capacity" — raise the cap or refund the extra student.
