Course reviews and ratings

How students leave a star rating and review, where it shows up, and what teachers can and can't do.

On this page

Enrolled students can give a course 1–5 stars and an optional written review on its sales page. Ratings belong to your school and are never shared across schools.

Who can review

  • Only students who are enrolled and whose access is still active. Visitors who haven't bought the course, or students whose access has expired, are blocked on submit.
  • Each student has one review per course. Submitting again updates the existing review (stars and text are both overwritten) rather than adding a second one.
  • A rating outside 1–5 is clamped into range, and the written comment can be left blank for a stars-only review.
  • Logged-out visitors can read existing reviews, but the submit form only appears once they're logged in and enrolled.

Where reviews appear

  • Course sales page: the hero shows the average rating and review count, and the reviews section below lists every review. If your school uses the page builder's sales-page template, the Course Hero and Course Overview blocks show the same content.
  • Course cards: cards in the homepage and page-builder course-grid blocks, and on an instructor's profile page, show the average rating and review count. Courses with no reviews yet show no stars.

The average and the count are computed live from the existing reviews, so there's nothing to update by hand.

What teachers can and can't do

  • Teachers can't edit or delete student reviews, or post one on a student's behalf. That's deliberate — it's what makes the ratings credible.
  • The most direct way to collect your first reviews is to invite students back to the course page after they finish, using an email broadcast or a community post.

FAQ

If a student is refunded or their access expires, does their review stay? Yes. The review stays with the course; that student just can't update it anymore.

Can I allow only certain students to review? There's no such setting at the moment — every student with active access can review.
