Test your payment setup
Run one small real transaction to confirm a payment method really receives money before students check out.
On this page
After setting up a payment method, test it yourself before opening it to students. Go to School settings → Payments and scroll to "Test your payment setup". Only the owner can use it.
How to test
1. Pick a test course. A draft course works (no need to publish first); an archived one doesn't.
2. Pick the payment method to test. The list only shows methods that are switched on and support the course's currency; manual transfer isn't listed because there's no automatic way to check it.
3. The screen tells you how much the real transaction will be; confirm and press "Create test checkout".
4. Follow the screen to pay. The system creates a test order, calls that gateway's API and keeps checking the payment status.
5. "Payment confirmed" means the method receives money correctly.
Test amounts
To stay above each gateway's minimum charge, the amount depends on the currency: MYR 2, HKD 4, TWD 50, SGD 1, and 1 for anything else. This is real money being charged.
What to do with the test order
After success you're asked how to handle the test order:
- A one-time Stripe payment can be refunded right from the order page — press refund and the money goes back to your card or account.
- Every other gateway, and Stripe subscription orders, can't be refunded from here: refund in that gateway's own dashboard first, then come back and mark the order "refunded manually".
What's special about test orders
- They're labelled "Test order" in the order list.
- They're excluded from revenue and every statistic (see Orders & analytics).
- You're enrolled in the course during the test (the order really was paid).
If it fails
"This test payment didn't go through" means checking that method's credentials and testing again. If the lookup timed out, the payment may still be processing — refresh the page to see the latest status.
Some gateways can't check keys automatically, so their status reads "Not tested yet"; this tool is then the most direct verification. Setup steps for each gateway are in the articles in the Payments & Checkout category.
